Chris Hall is one of the most experienced wedding photographers on the circuit. A one time actor, working on TV and in the theatre, photography has always been his first love, and he photographs around twenty-five weddings a year. How, we asked, does he keep the results looking so fresh and original? I always arrange to meet with the couple at the venue a few days before the wedding day, by which time they have a clear idea of how the day is going to work and exactly what shots they want.
I don't go with any preconceived ideas. My job is to listen to what they want, make sure that happens, and then try to capture the feel of the day itself. Every wedding is different, and by seeing each one as a new challenge, you keep the results fresh and interesting.' More than anything, it's given me vital experience of working in a team. When you're photographing a wedding, you become part of the team of people who are making that day special.
You're not a stand-alone artist. You have to be constantly aware of everything else going on around you.
