I first seriously picked up a camera when my eldest was 6 months old. His mop of blond hair and striking blue eyes begged to be captured. I wasn't satisfied with phone images. I had this urge to create proper portraits of him, so I dug out our old point and shoot Olympus and spent the next few years documenting and writing about his development and the way he learnt.
You see, I was also fascinated with the way he went about his world, the things he chose to play with and how he chose to play with them. I even had a little blog for a while and studied for my Masters in Early Childhood Development. Eventually, I upgraded to a mirrorless Olympus and taught myself manual mode. I joined an online community called Clickin Moms, took a few courses and learnt all I could from the other women in the group.
My passion to create stronger images and to find out who I was as a photographer, slowly brought out my inner artist. I realised I had more than just a desire to capture my children as they grew, but a desire to create.
