Even when working as an HR Manager, photography ruled my life; it was what I lived for. And as for writing, during coffee breaks I would sit with a notebook and scribble away furiously, the words pouring out of my head so fast I could barely keep up. Eventually I came to realise that my photography was the doorway to a better and happier life. After 25 years in HR I changed my life completely.

I became a photographer and author, and for the last 15 years I have worked hard at being the best I can be at these passions of mine. They have given me so much joy and such freedom, that I only wish I'd made the career change sooner. And I hope and believe that I give some joy too. For myself, I know the delight that I get in looking at a wonderful image, or reading some great writing, so I hope that here and there people look at my photographs or read my books and gain some pleasure from them.

My greatest desire is to produce amazing images of our incredible world, and for that I travel as much as I am able, but I do of course have clients and a publisher and need to work with them to meet their needs too.

There is nowhere in the world comparable to Iceland.
It is unique, one of those miraculous places on our earth where nature has created something quite extraordinary.
The power of this landscape is immense, brooding, and compelling.
I cannot stop marvelling at what I experienced, and cannot wait to go back.
I only managed 4 days in Iceland but thanks to one 17 hour drive I did capture some of the fantastic scenery of the southern fringe of the country, even managing to get as far as the incredible glacier lagoon of Jokusarlon.
I think there is as much beauty and interest in urban scenes as there is in what may be termed the more classical landscape images.
Much architecture, old and new, refreshes the eye and makes little corners of our towns and cities a pleasure to behold.
Then too, whilst I'm not often tempted by ugliness, even urban decay can have its own fascination.
It is one of the most photogenic areas of our country and I can highly recommend a visit for anyone interested in mountains, wildlife, the sea, history, or the sheer beauty of landscapes.
Below are just a few examples of what can be seen on this gorgeous island (which is actually connected to the mainland by a bridge now!)
I have undertaken a number of commercial projects for clients, ranging from individual hotels and B&Bs, Airbnb, tourist boards, to jewellers, designers, builders, farmers, gardeners, and anything in between!
It is an entirely different discipline, since I am not always producing the image that I have in my mind's eye, but I love to work with my clients to create something that showcases their talents and products, and leaves them happy.
Please contact me to discuss your requirements if you would like me to do any photography or writing work for your business.
I am not just a photographer but a writer too.
Currently I have four books available, published by Merlin Unwin Books, Britain's leading publisher of countryside books.
The books are published under my maiden name of Helen Shaw.
The books are available directly from me, from Merlin Unwin Books, any good bookstore, or online.
Find a peaceful corner, dip into this enchanting new book and enjoy Bowland in all its unforgettable splendour.'
Why not enjoy the British countryside at its best as you dawdle vaguely northwards through hill and dale?
