Melody Art
Welcome to our Life in Exmoor National Park with Painting by artist Melody Hawtin B.A.Hons and Photography by David Hawtin. Here in Exmoor National Park, the light has a beautiful quality that draws out the subtle tones of this ever changing landscape. Rich colours of gorse and heather through the summer months and the rich reds of bracken during the autumn and winter months.

To live, paint and take photographs in this place is a dream for an artist. Should you require assistance please feel free to contact us via phone or email. As we move out of lockdown we will be open by appointment in Melody's studio. Melody was recently filmed as part of a BBC Countryfile profile of Holnicote Estate in Exmoor. The weather was appalling with horizontal rain, but Melody is never put off and managed to maintain a cheerful outlook as she shared her love of the Exmoor countryside.

Returning to her studio Melody painted the local scene that she had just sketched, the film follows the progress of the painting and shows something of Melody's studio in Porlock on Exmoor.
Services
At the age of 13, I worked with David Frier, a well known west country photographer, carrying cameras, and visiting hunts and weddings.
In the 80's I was in Brighton.
Yet every spare moment I returned to Exmoor.
I loved the sea and bohemian life style meeting fellow artists.
Friends helped my commercial career designing for The Brighton Festival, local restaurants, advertising for Goodwood, portraits and simply sitting on Brighton beach sketching the holiday makers.
A special highlight of my life in Brighton was working with blind first and second world war veterans at St Dunstan 's.
We have received some amazing reviews over the years that we have had Puffins.
We use TripAdvisor, Booking.com and AIRBNB and have received certificates from two and will hopefully receive a certificate from AIRBNB once we have received enough reviews.
As a young person living in Brighton, Melody would return home for her holiday, it was vital for her well being.
Walking everyday on Exmoor, come rain or shine is amazingly refreshing.
With this in mind it was Melody's intention to create a comfortable creative holiday space from which this refreshment can be found.
Puffins is located in the centre of Porlock down a short drive opposite The Castle Hotel and adjacent to the hardware store.
Shops and local facilities are all within easy walking distance.
Puffins is an ideal location if you don't want to use the car all the time.
Should you need help on arrival Melody or David are usually available in Melody Art directly opposite Puffins.
Please see a selection of places to visit and places to eat listed below.
Once you have booked we will send you details of Puffins, the code for the key box, and directions.
